Intense Workload at Election Offices | Human Error?

Washington (GGM) Analysis | October 21, 2020 by Noreen Wise

According to one recent report, there are roughly 6.5 million registered voters living outside the United States, which means there are many stakeholders who believe in our most basic democratic principle, the right to vote. And it seems that the majority of these living abroad — many whom happen to be employed by the US military and the US State Department — will indeed be following through and voting by mail.

Americans living abroad, have always relied upon the US Postal service to efficiently deliver their ballots. Their reliance on the dedication of US Postal Service employees, who heroically persevere through all types of intense weather situations and perilous global events, have always brought tremendous peace of mind. But this year, the most important presidential election ever, our confidence in the postal service is shaken to the core, as a result of the newly installed Postmaster General, Louis Dejoy.

Over the summer, Dejoy launchd what appears to have been an intentional post office dismantling campaign in an effort to undermine voters who planned on voting by mail, which had the potential of severely impacting the many millions across the continental United States who planned to vote-by-mail during the covid pandemic, but also the potential election-changing 6.5 million who vote from abroad.

With this as the backdrop in the lead-up to November 3, 2020, it’s completely understandable why so many towns and counties across the country decided to offer early voting in their communities, as well as the mail-in-ballot option for all who submitted a vote-by-mail application, and had it approved.

Because this is a first time crisis — voting during a global pandemic which is being managed by a president who spends every waking moment trying to convince the public it’s no big deal — no town or county, especially those with a majority of registered Democrats, could have predicted, and thus planned for, the volume of citizens who would respond to the opportunity of both main-in-ballots and voting early.

The fact that so many election offices were overwhelmed on such a grand scale should inspire an instant response. However, in order to solve this problem, communities have to first acknowledge the problem exists. Election offices across the country ned more help. If I experienced a one-off malfunction, I can’t help but believe there are many others with similar stories. We have to be our own best advocate.

I’m covering climate action up in Canada during the pandemic, and learned the hard way that human error can potentially impact election results, unless we are willing to step up and act quickly. Thankfully, there are angels off in the wings, with sharp critical thinking skills, who know how to act swiftly and find a way through, when everything falls apart.

•I submitted my vote-by-mail application online a few days after Labor Day, following the recommended guidelines of 45 days before election.

•I had the option of selecting between having the ballot emailed to me, or mailed. I obviously selected “email.” What could go wrong with that?

•I expected to receive it the next day, but nothing arrived. The following day, when again there was no email in my inbox, I phoned my local election office. “You must be patient. We’ve received so MANY mail-in-ballot applications.”

•I patiently waited a week, nothing. So I called again. “Please be patient, we’re overwhelmed. Please don’t worry, you’ll definitely receive it.”

•I then waited an entire month. Still nothing. I began to panic, and last week called again. After waiting on hold for an hour, I was informed that my application for mail-in-ballot was denied. “DENIED? Why?” … “We don’t send ballots to PO boxes.” … “But you were supposed to email, not send.” … “Oh, right. I see that now. The employee who was checking the application must have missed that. She made a mistake.” … “What? Can you email it right now?” … “Early voting just started and we’re mobbed. We’ve been working 16 hours per day.” … “But I want to vote too, please email my ballot.”

•To make a log story short, I called back a few hours later. An angel election office employee gave me her personal work number and email, told me to call back if I didn’t receive the ballot by the end of the day. She worked the phones, but would make sure the woman who was emailing ballots, emailed mine. She then followed up through email, as well as called back later that night, after I left a message. She wouldn’t let this go until I confirmed that I’d received my emailed ballot.”

American heroes like this election worker, are ultimately the glue and the backbone of our democracy. Her determined, resourceful ingenuity, enabled one more vote to be cast during this election to save our democracy. M. L. renewed my hope that we’ll succeed with this vital mission. Thank you so much! ✅

“When once a Republic is corrupted, there is no possibility of remedying any of the growing evils but by removing the corruption and restoring its lost principles; every other correction is either useless or a new evil.” ~Thomas Jefferson

The time is now…

I can’t fathom there ever having been a more urgent moment to get involved in the electoral process than the present. Trump is furiously promoting his Anti-American/Pro-Russia Agenda in a flurry of “Divide America” rallies. We mustn’t fight each other, we MUST fight for the future of our remarkable nation.

Flipping the House and throwing Devin Nunes and Trey Gowdy out of office, and power, is within our reach.

There are still 18 primaries to be held before the midterm elections on November 6, 2018. If a few dozen Russians were successful at influencing our election, then a few million American Facebook posters can be succeed at enlightening our fellow compatriots about which candidates will best lead us forward and restore our lost principles.

Did Speaker Ryan Actually Speak? | Perspective

perspective

House Speaker Paul Ryan is FINALLY mad.

What took so long?

The rest of the world has been angry at Trump for 13 months as we’ve repeatedly watched in horror as the Republican President of the United States of American has aggressively – and satanically – attempted to knock down every single one of our cherished democratic pillars while Ryan and McConnell and GOP sat frozen in their seats, cowering in the corner, mouths zipped shut, blinders wrapped tightly around their heads.

And now that Trump has gone completely manic, undermining the whole entire world with his illogical proposed tariffs on steel and aluminum, for the apparent purpose of currying favor with a few, at the expense of the entire global population, Ryan has rattled his brain awake and gotten a glimpse of who Trump really is.

The enemy!

Speaker Ryan, why are you shocked? Do you feel blindsided? We’ve all been agonizing, in appalled alarm, since January 20, 2017. There’s not enough time in the day to list all the lives destroyed, and outrageous destructive actions Trump has viciously taken against America while you stood haplessly at his side.

Well, welcome to reality. So glad you finally showed up. What’s the next step? You’re the one in the driver’s seat.

Today, Monday March 5, 2018, Ryan spokesperson Ashlee Ryan officially stated, “We are extremely worried about the consequences of a trade war and are urging the White House to not advance with this plan. The new tax reform law has boosted the economy and we certainly don’t want to jeopardize those gains.”

Tillerson’s Moral Impairment Impacting Decision Making | Perspective

perspective

For decades we’ve witnessed a staggering phenomenon. Musicians, actors, writers, athletes, politicians and business leaders, many of whom were born with an abundance of natural talent, natural gifts that are magnified by disciplined training and education, until they reach the top of their field…and after arriving at the summit, they plateau for a few years, but very few can hold their edge, instead they most likely decline, many completely losing their gifts and talent all together.

Some of the stories have been heart wrenching. OJ Simpson became a murderer, butchering his ex-wife and her boyfriend. But he’s not the only “star” turned murderer: Oscar Pistorius, Aaron Hernandez, Phil Spector, Sid Vicious from the Sex Pistols, Michael Jace from The Shield, Johnny Lewis – Sons of Anarchy, Howard Hughes, Robert Blake…the list goes on and on.

And then there’s the business leader side of the coin. The executives who transform into vicious criminals. This list is so incredibly distressing, mostly because of the sheer volume of well-educated and talented executives who’ve succumbed to the classic lures of financial gain, career boosting shortcuts, manipulation of stock prices, insider trading, fraud, money laundering, etc, many of whom have landed in jail or were charged millions of dollars in fines.

And don’t get me started on the incredibly promising politicians who get sucked into corruption schemes, defrauding taxpayers, bribery, mail fraud, wire fraud, tax evasion.

There are the insanely brilliant pop stars and actors who aren’t able to handle their fame and fall prey to drugs, leading to wretched endings as a result of overdoses, ie Whitney Houston and Michael Jackson, and so many more.

How about the unfortunate twist of making it to the top, but once you get there you lose your mojo. This usually happens to writers, particularly singer-songwriters who can keep singing for decades but they seemingly no longer have the ability to write lyrics and compose. When was the last time superstars like Paul McCarthy, Billy Joel, Mick Jagger produced a new award-winning album? It’s been decades.

So apparently there’s an arc to success. Work incredibly hard, and finally make it to the top. But once there, and you’re no longer hungry and struggling, you may begin to lose your advantage if you don’t understand how you became successful, and don’t stay committed to maintaining the traits that made you a star. (Steve Jobs mastered this.)

But Trump’s billionaire cabinet, the majority of whom are clearly morally impaired, and suffering from extremely poor judgement, and making horrible decisions that are life-threatening for the American public, have not only lost their mojo and are clearly in a state of decline, they seem to have been transformed into enemies of the United States of America.

Moral impairment is a serious detriment especially when someone like Secretary of State Rex Tillerson is representing the people of the United States on foreign policy issues as well as our American values. So what’s going on here? How do we wrap our minds around Tillerson’s decision making?

The recent article by the New York Times on Tillerson, the State Department and employees claiming political retribution, has key Democrats calling on State Department watchdogs for an “immediate review.”

Tillerson has made a series of terrible management decisions that appear to be setting our foreign policies on a path of self destruction. Only an enemy would pursue such a course, or perhaps someone suffering from Mad Cow Disease. Tillerson’s in a critical role on the world stage and seems unable to apply the most basic management and/or executive principles in his role as Secretary of State.

The critical issues according to the New York Times:

(1) Key positions in major hotspots across the globe are vacant, 5 in the Middle East

(2) Employees with long careers and deep experience are being re-assigned to do FOIA data entry

(3) Tillerson insists FOIA requests are very important and employees have to help out with the extra workload

Employees are claiming this is political retribution.

What can Tillerson say to defend his decision making? Nothing. It’s an indefensible decision. How is working a job 10 levels below an employee’s pay grade a sound management decision? The vast majority of us know that this is illogical. Why does Tillerson believe any educated professional American citizen will buy this explanation?

None will.

So then yes, it’s clearly political retribution….which is another bad choice by Tillerson.

Moral impairment in a world leader is profoundly unsettling. Lives are at stake. The world is struggling under widespread unrest. We are the United States of America, a superpower, a bright positive force in a chaotic world.

Tillerson must resign or be removed. He’s in a state of dramatic decline. He’s lost his mojo, maybe even his marbles.

It’s. That. Simple.

“When ignorance and bigotry is allied with power” | Perspective

BlogNmbrsDangerous Force

“The commander in chief in an Oval Office meeting referring to people from African countries and Haitians with the most vile and vulgar language, that language festers. When ignorance and bigotry is allied with power it is a dangerous force in our country. Your silence and your amnesia is complicit in it,Booker said.

This passionately charged statement by Senator Booker eloquently sums up the extreme challenges of the past twelve months. “Ignorance and bigotry allied with power”…empowers like-minded to commit evil towards their fellow citizens.

Senator Booker was speaking to Kristjen Nielsen while she was testifying before the Senate Judiciary Committee about what she heard Trump say at his meeting on Friday. She claimed Trump didn’t use the vulgar, racially offensive term that’s been all over the news. Booker’s charged reproach rebukes Nielsen. May this sink in with the GOP. Amnesia equates with complicity.

Kristjen Nelson is a Scandinavian name. Are either she or her husband from Norway?

BlogNmbrs-2Will Kushner be Next to Fall?

Just a reminder about how tight Flynn and Kushner were. It’s been over a month since Flynn’s plea deal was announced. At the time, it was understood that Flynn would be taking down a big fish. Is it Kushner?

This was the context of Kushner’s instruction to Flynn last December. One transition official at the time said Kushner called Flynn to tell him he needed to get every foreign minister or ambassador from a country on the U.N. Security Council to delay or vote against the resolution. Much of this appeared to be coordinated also with Israeli prime minister Benjamin Netanyahu, whose envoys shared their own intelligence about the Obama administration’s lobbying efforts to get member states to support the resolution with the Trump transition team.

BlogNmbrs-3Reversing Net Neutrality Rollback, The Fight Continues

State Attorney generals across the country have joined the fight to reverse the Net Neutrality rollback.

“‘Attorneys general from 21 states and the District of Columbia, including California and New York, filed a petition for review and argued that the FCC’s action was ‘arbitrary, capricious, and an abuse of discretion,’ and violated the Constitution and federal law.”

But the really big deal today was that Senator Markey announced that ALL 49 Democratic Senators are co-sponsors of his bill to reverse the Net Neutrality rollback. GOP Senator Collins has also committed her support to the Bill. Markey only needs 1 more GOP Senator to win the reversal.

“There is a tsunami of Congressional and grassroots support to overturn the FCC’s partisan and misguided decision on net neutrality,” said Senator Ed Markey (D-MA). Republicans now have a clear choice — be on the right side of history and stand with the American people who support a free and open internet, or hold hands with the special interests who want to control the internet for their own profit. I urge them to join the majority of Americans, embrace the bipartisanship of net neutrality, and support this resolution.”

Classified Information | Perspective

CLASSIFIED INFORMATION, SENATORS GRASSLEY & GRAHAM

Today’s breaking news story about the criminal referral filed with DOJ by Senators Grassley and Graham pertaining to Fusion GPS’ Steele dossier, is an interesting anomaly.

Is it legal for the Chairman of the Senate Judiciary Committee, investigating Russia meddling and Trump-Russia collusion, to publicly undermine evidence in this way, particularly in light of the fact that much of the hearing is classified?

What are the laws pertaining to knowing classified information, and using this knowledge to negatively impact evidence that supports proof in an investigation for the purpose of undermining the investigation? Is that obstruction of justice?

Following Trump’s election, Grassley has been a steadfast Trump loyalist. Harshly demanding of the American public after Comey was fired, “Suck it up, and move on.”

A month ago, Grassley seemed Intent on undermining the public’s view of the FBI’s independence by publicly revealing that an agent was removed from the investigation in July after it became clear he was pro Hillary and felt negatively about Trump.

Grassley has access to substantial amounts of classified evidence in the Russian investigation. As the proof piles up, Grassley retaliates by publicly undermining the investigation team itself. Mueller’s independence. And now the evidence.

His actions seem to clearly underscore Trump’s guilt. The vicious turbulence reminds me of a fighter plane breaking the sound barrier.

PUTIN & U. S. REGULATIONS

American Regulations are one of the pillars that make us a developed country, a super power. Third World countries don’t have regulations and look what a mess they are. Behind all the U.S. regulations are thousands of victims. Often hundreds of thousands. Sometimes millions of victims.

Regulations = Consumer Protection

So Trump is on a mission to eliminate our regulations, and knock down one of the fiercest pillars that stablize the country and protect the public.

We understand regulations on a personal level in our everyday lives. We make decisions to fund personal security and protection.

What family isn’t for a home security system? Do we mind paying for smoke detectors? Child safety locks? Cars with airbags? Cross walks? Safe and clean food, water, air? Of course not.

So why does our President think he can decide for us that he doesn’t want the American people to have protection for our financial assets. Net neutrality? Our natural resources?

Trump, through his clever word manipulation, is framing his de-regulation agenda so positively. Calling it over-regulation.

But it’s not over-regulation.

For every regulation, there are exceptions. If a situation falls into the “exception” category, you feel annoyed if you’re the one impacted. Sure. But you understand. When you think of the flip side, the no regulation side, you come to grips with your frustration and let it rest. (I was annoyed this week when I tried to deposit cash in a family member’s bank account who lived in another state. They needed immediate assistance. A check takes 48 hours to clear. Bank of America explained that unless I had an account with them, I couldn’t deposit cash into someone else’s account. It was a new regulation. Argh!)

So again, why has Trump eliminated the vast majority of our protections? We do not have a dictatorship in America, so how is he able to do this?

Trump doesn’t even seem intelligent enough to mastermind this massive de-regulation scheme. Further, what real president of the United States would want to harm America to this extreme? It doesn’t even seem probable that Trump has time to zero-in on de-regulating the USA.

Using the scientific method, I’m left to deduce that there’s someone else behind this nefarious de-regulation curtain pulling all the strings.

Putin!

I’m being serious. A complex action plan crafted before the election. Sun Tzu The Art of War again.

BlogNmbrs-3
STATES

“Fake it until you make it.” That’s what I’m deducing after the endless stream of unilateral Trump decisions.

DOJ upends states’ rights to legalize marijuana. Can the Department of Justice really up and do this?

In business, Trump’s a dictator.

We saw in January, Trump’s sinister attempt to turn the U.S. presidency into a dictatorship. Months of massive protest marches around the globe eventually creating a barrier for this Machievellian vision of his. He then became embroiled in the Trump-Russia Collusion Investigation.

But here we go again this week, with Trump’s DOJ overturning state laws by the flick of a switch. States are a constitutional check & balance. This reversal is the act of a would-be dictator with no respect for states rights or the three branches of government.

Trump has said he can tell a lie three times and by the fourth everyone will think it’s true. Apparently, he feels the same about his actions. If he fakes being a dictator long enough, eventually we Americans will believe we’re governed by a dictator and allow him to be one.

So no, it’s imperative we throw everything we have against this and block Trump from overturning our Constitution.

Quote, Senator Cory Gardner: “‘One tweet later, one policy later ― a complete reversal of what many of us on the Hill were told before the confirmation. Without any notification, conversation or dialogue with Congress, completely reversed.’”

Russian Interference | Perspective

BlogNmbrs
RUSSIAN INTERFERENCE

All the U.S. Intelligence Agencies determined conclusively that Russia interfered with the U.S. 2016 Presidential Election for the purpose of electing Donald Trump and undermining Hillary Clinton.

There have been numerous news stories over the past 12 months identifying the methods the Russians used to “influence” U.S. voters. Fake news. Trolls. Social media ads. Fake social media accounts….all targeting ignorance and our willingness to believe what we hear or read without questioning what’s being said or written.

The Intelligence Community has been sounding the alarm about nothing being done to deter Russia from meddling again. In fact, we’ve been told point blank that Russia will definitely continue trying to influence us, and that we should be on the look out.

Trump refuses to acknowledge Russia’s interference. Congress hasn’t initiated a counter strategy. And Homeland Security isn’t advising on a battle plan for U.S. citizens. So I guess we have to look out for each other and create our own counter-Russian influence plan.

  • Russian trolls are EVERYWHERE. They seem like GOP trolls or Trump trolls and very well may be, but many are Russian.

  • Moscow is 8 hours ahead of Eastern Standard Time, although not all Russian trolls are in Moscow. But bottom-line, any posts you see on a Sunday morning (for example) that’s stamped at 4:00am ET is 99.9% likely to be from a foreign country.

  • The new troll isn’t as aggressive and belligerent as they were at the beginning of the year, but they are subtly trying to influence our opinions by weaving half truths through their lies.

  • Half truths are the most dangerous kind of subliminal pressure used to try and influence our beliefs. They dramatically increase the likelihood we’ll believe a lie. The fact that the Russian intelligence community, governed by Putin an autocrat, has an army of loyal agents diligently clicking away on their computers, trying to act like Texans (or some other region of the country), lining a news comment or FB post with a half truth is alarming.

  • An example: Putin is an autocrat. A tyrant. So Russia is an autocracy. To influence the world into believing this is a great system, Putin/Russia calls it “managed democracy.” Managed democracy doesn’t seem so bad, does it? And yet a an autocracy and a tyrant are the most oppressive form of government, the polar opposite of USA.

Let’s all keep each other informed about what we see and hear so we can stay protected.

Bannon & the Deep State | Perspective

BANNON & HIS DEEP STATE NARRATIVE

Let’s cut to the chase with Bannon and his Deep State narrative. We already have too many mountains to climb, so its best not to be burdened with a giant manufactured mountain that Bannon has created to throw at those who object to his extreme beliefs.

The Deep State now seems to mean all U.S. federal agencies. This because hundreds of millions of us have no real idea what the Deep State even is. So, when we read that a GOP Congressman is referring to the FBI and DOJ as part of the Deep State that needs to be purged, it’s a huge red flag we have to get a handle on Bannon and his indoctrination campaign.

The federal agencies of the United States of American are a vital part of our government’s inner workings and are required for us to exist and thrive. They are not a shadow government that has to be wiped out like Bannon & alt-Right would have us believe. Federal Agencies will never be perfect because they are filled with zillions of people who aren’t perfect. No operation with real people will ever be perfect.

Every large agency and organization grows weeds. We get this. We enjoy our many beautiful gardens and understand they need to be tended to on a regular basis.

This is very simple and basic and has existed since the beginning of time.

But the Congressman’s statement that the FBI & DOJ has to be purged because of the Trump-Russia investigation, is merely his aiding & abetting obstruction of justice to the independent investigation as it closes in on Trump’s inner circle.

But yes, since Bannon is trying to intertwine all these issues so he can label a vital organ a tumor and have it removed, we need to clarify by properly categorizing Bannon’s murky conspiracy theory.

Bannon is attempting to change the label of our federal agencies to “Deep State” for the purpose of implying something sinister and malevolent….this so he can use it as a marketing angle for his targeted “extreme” audience.

Trump had named Sessions as the chairman of his National Security Advisory Committee for his campaign on March 3, 2016. Flynn was named to the same committee. The two worked closely.

Flynn plead guilty to lying to the FBI about a call he had with Kislyak when they discussed sanctions. Sessions avoided any negative fallout from his three undisclosed meetings with Kislyak because he claimed to have “no recollection” about what was discussed. Perhaps Flynn can assist Mueller in helping Sessions recall the details of the meetings.

Trump & the Mafia | Perspective

BlogNmbrs
TRUMP & THE MAFIA

Trump’s connections with the Mafia date back to his casino days in Atlantic City, New Jersey, from the early 1980’s into the 1990’s. While building his casino empire in the mid-1980’s, Trump was in deep with Mob boss Nicky Scarfo and mobster Daniel Sullivan.

Nicky Sacrfo was the master of Atlantic City election rigging.

Trump was fined $447,000 in 1998 for money laundering, “the largest fine the federal government ever slapped on a casino for violating the Bank Secrecy Act.” Trump violated the rules 106 times the first year the Taj Mahal was open.

In 2015, Trump Taj Mahal was fined again for laundering money, this time for $10 million.

It appears Trump doesn’t correct mistakes even if they’re crimes. Apparently, if you make enough money from committing the crime (i.e. if Trump was rewarded with $700,000 million for laundering Mob money, and only paid a fine of $10 million, it’s very lucrative and might even afford one the opportunity of becoming a billionaire), so there’s no point in stopping.

These types of banking regulations and fines may be the root of why Trump is so anti-regulation.

BlogNmbrs-2
THE RUSSIA INVESTIGATION

On December 5, 2017 Mueller subpoenaed Deutsche Bank for it’s loan records with the Trump Organization following Trump’s six bankruptcies and his inability to secure funding from traditional US banks.

According to Newsweek, Mueller “is looking into whether Russian money laundering fostered the Trump Organizations’s growth and development” after his many bankruptcies.  “Earlier this year, the bank paid $630 million to settle charges of laundering $10 billion for the Russians.”

Trump is ultra-sensitive about his finances, refusing to share his taxes. It appears this Deutsche Bank subpoena may have been another trigger that prompted the GOP loyalist aggressive assault on Mueller and his investigators the week before Christmas.

As we learned during Trump’s 2016 campaign, and his first year in office, Trump is retaliatory.

ENVIRONMENT

Extensive wildfires in Northern California’s wine country in October 2017 and the Thomas wildfires in Southern California raging for 3 weeks this December have tragically obliterated California’s greenhouse gas gains.

According to Live Science, the October wildfires emitted “7.9 million tons of carbon dioxide, the equivalent of about 25% of the average monthly emissions from all fossil fuel burning in the entire state of California.”

The air quality in some California cities grew so extreme it was paralleled with Beijing’s injurious air quality.

HEALTH

Our sense of smell is a simple and effective way to receive beneficial health remedies. Take for example, pine.

Have you ever run or walked through a neighborhood filled with pine trees? If so, you’ll quickly discover how therapeutic the air is. But even more important than the psychological benefits of breathing healthful air, pine air is also rich in antioxidants (both flavonols and bioflavonoids). Antioxidants help to fight cancer, heart disease and many other diseases.

The Japanese call this de-stress phenomenon shinrin-yoku, “taking in the atmosphere of the forest.”

There are no calories in air. And air is free!

Russia Investigation | Perspective

BlogNmbrsRUSSIA INVESTIGATION

On December 1, 2017 Mike Flynn pleaded guilty to lying to the FBI about conversations he had with Russian diplomat Sergey Kislyak following Trump’s election. This significant event in Robert Mueller’s investigation timeline indicates the investigation is intensifying and that other indictments are imminent, and/or may already exist but are sealed. Flynn has agreed to be a cooperating witness in the Trump/Russia collusion investigation signaling he has proven to Mueller’s team his information can take down a big fish, and that there was/is Trump/Russian collusion.

The potential big fish that may now be in the crosshairs are: son Donald Trump Jr, son-in-law Jared Kushner, daughter Ivanka Trump, Jeff Sessions and more.

Numerous GOP leaders have stated that Trump asked them to end the Trump/Russia collusion Investigation dating back to the beginning of the year.

In light of the significant success of the Mueller investigation, and the investigation’s forward momentum, the GOP Trump loyalists appear to have moved aggressively to thwart Mueller’s progress, and to vigorously discredit Mueller and his team.

This boiling point will stretch on for a painfully long period of time. Expect a tumultuous beginning to the new year. It seems GOP loyalists will attempt an all-out assault on the Mueller investigation using an octopus strategy: endless trolls commenting on news articles & posting on social media; undercutting the investigators on Mueller’s team; eroding confidence in Mueller; placing judges in key courts who can impede the investigation, some of which aren’t qualified to be judges; blocking discovery; creating attention grabbing and time-consuming diversions; firing Mueller; starting World War III.

In the meantime, if interested in learning more about how these investigations work, check out The Assets on Netflix. This stunning series about CIA traitor Aldrich Ames who sold U.S. secrets to Russian during the cold war, and was responsible for the deaths of 10 “assets,” is an eye-opener into how intricate a small, simple “find the mole” investigation is, how many hoops investigators have to jump through, how laborious it is to unearth the right kind of evidence to win in court, and how long investigations can take (the Ames investigation took 7 years). Trump/Russia collusion is exponentially more complicated.

Be prepared for a bumpy ride. But recognize the mission of GOP Trump loyalists when you read the headlines, and remember the vast majority of U.S. citizens are incredibly thankful for the handwork and dedication of Mueller and his team. They’re on a treacherous uphill battle on the “right side of history,” rising to the intense challenge they’ve been saddled with in pursuit of preserving our democracy and its coveted ideals.

STATES

Our Constitution contains numerous checks & balances to protect U.S. citizens from the abuse of power. One of the most potent checks on an over-reaching federal government is state authority. There have been a significant number of states who’ve stepped-up to lead the way in pushing-back against Trump’s unilateral and divisive Executive Orders and decisions that are in sharp conflict with American principles.

Typically when a president is elected by the Electoral College rather than the majority vote, an attempt to bridge the political divide and build bipartisan support is made. But this hasn’t happened with the Trump administration. Keep your eyes on states like New York, Virginia, Connecticut, New Jersey, Maryland, California, Oregon, Washington, Hawaii and more who’ve taken action against Trump and his controversial policies. New York Attorney General Eric Schneiderman is leading the way in opposition. His most recent legal action is that of suing the FCC over it’s move to end Net Neutrality.

ENVIRONMENT

Paradoxically, corporations do NOT feel the need to protect American waterways, air and soil unless regulated. The vast majority of corporations govern themselves by their desire to make money no matter what the impact on the environment and human health. Toxins damage human DNA, creating permanent health effects that will be passed on forever without any recourse for the injured parties.

The best way to protect ourselves is lobby our STATE legislators. Most states have environmental nonprofits. Some are national nonprofits with local chapters. Join an organization to strengthen state lobbying efforts. EPA Scott Pruitt has been tasked to end environmental protection, so there’s no hope on this front. Sate legislators are the solution.

States can establish their own environmental protection standards when determining if drinking water is safe. The EPA may set a standard of 70 parts per trillion, but a state like New Jersey has a much more rigorous standard of 14 parts per trillion. Recently in North Carolina, Duke researchers found that drinking water in Carey, NC has PFOS and PFOA chemicals at 27 parts per trillion. Below EPA standards, but above some state standards, and a big increase from a previous reading of 5.6 parts per trillion. It’s understandable why residents of Carey are alarmed. The EPA is NOT going to help protect them. Connecting with state legislators to adjust the state environmental standards to align with those states that have the strongest protection policies is the path forward in strengthening health safety.

HEALTH

The most effective way to stay heathy and minimize healthcare costs is build a strong immune system. A strong immune system doesn’t need to cost very much. It’s about having disciplined daily habits:

    • at least 7 hours of sleep each night , eye shields provide deeper sleep which restores the immune system much faster and easier
    • Vigorous walking each day, ideally 8,000 steps
    • 1 clove of garlic every morning: just press into an inch of water in 8 oz mug, microwave for 35 seconds, add a splash of cold water, chug. Chase with favorite morning beverage. It tastes terrible, but you drink it so fast you won’t care. Garlic traces back 3,000 years. Used by ancient Egyptians to stay healthy and strong while building the pyramids.
